LIGHT (Leading Initiatives for Greater Health Transparency) empowers low-income and underrepresented communities by breaking down the barriers that make healthcare confusing, one conversation at a time.
LIGHT is more than a club. It's a growing family. We're building a space where members support one another, learn together, and grow as leaders while making a real impact across Rochester. We believe understanding healthcare is a right, not a privilege.
Gain real skills while making an impact in Rochester communities.

LIGHT is a student led organization at the University of Rochester that focuses on raising awareness and providing physical resources for underserved communities in healthcare.
We set up a table at the Central Library to share important information about health screenings and connect visitors with health resources across Rochester.
We used the space to provide physical resources to immigrants, Deaf/HH individuals, and Black and Latino community members. We helped with Medicaid applications as best we could, handed out vocabulary lists for common healthcare terms in different languages (our club can speak/sign five different languages!), and pointed visitors to organizations that specialize in hard to access healthcare resources. It was essentially volunteer social work.

A year of general meetings, guest speakers, and community conversations.
